14 Enabling the Industrial IoT Revolution Some gas sensors have an algorithm to minimize the effect that condensation/humidity has on the sensor. For example, condensation in the mining industry comes from: • Sprayed water to minimize dust clouds. • Hard surfaces on which condensation occurs, such as during the formation of dew. Some sensors can be factory calibrated for fast installation. Applications include hazardous areas, automation and control, IAQ, and industrial health and safety. Amphenol Advanced Sensors (AAS) Telaire T9501 IP67 RH and T Sensor with Modbus Amphenol Advanced Sensors Thermometrics T9501 IP67 Humidity & Temperature Sensor with Modbus is an advanced, cost-effective humidity and temperature- sensing solution for any harsh-environment application. These sensors are based on a capacitive polymer sensor chip and has application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) in an easy-mount original equipment manufacturer (OEM) package. Each sensor is individually calibrated and tested. The T9501 sensor is waterproof (IP67) and ready to use without further calibration or temperature compensation. These sensors have Modbus, a data communications protocol for use with programmable logic controllers (PLCs). Modbus was developed for industrial applications and is easy to deploy and maintain compared to other standards, without many restrictions. Importance of Monitoring Humidity to Maintain Good IAQ Indoor air quality (IAQ) is measured with humidity and temperature meters, as well as CO₂ sensors, to ensure standards for human comfort and health indoors. Human comfort depends on the interaction of multiple variables, optimizing relative humidity, temperature, and CO₂ by measuring IAQ, which satisfies comfort requirements for occupants instead of optimizing the only temperature. Facility managers constantly monitor indoor air quality to properly store medication, protect their staff, and maintain isolation room integrity. Indoor mold exposure is increasing as the public becomes more aware that exposure can cause various health effects and symptoms, including allergic reactions. All molds have the potential to cause health effects. Molds can usually produce allergens that can trigger allergic reactions or even asthma attacks in people allergic to mold. Other molds produce potent toxins and/or irritants. Potential health concerns are an important reason to prevent mold growth and remediate any existing indoor mold growth (Figure 4). The best way to control mold growth is to control moisture. The Telaire T9501 IP67 RH and T Sensor can do the job.
