Reliability in the Harsh environment
of Automotive Applications
By Alex Pluemer for Mouser Electronics
Developers face a multitude
of challenges when designing
electronic components for
automotive applications.
Size, location and packaging
type are all variables that can
mitigate wear and tear and
extended the operational
lifetimes of important devices.
Modern automobiles use an ever-increasing amount
of electronics to provide drivers and passengers
with features and capabilities to address safety,
efficiency, comfort and security. Advanced driver
assistance features require an array of sensory and
computational capabilities to detect and warn the
driver of possible danger—or to actually take action
if the driver is slow to respond. Electric vehicles
require complex electronics to optimize battery
efficiency, improve charging times and control
mechanical systems to minimize wear and tear and
potential future maintenance.
