23 RF design tools comprise a multitude of features built into software simulation tools, hardware prototyping tools, and evaluation boards. Even Gerber files can be considered a tool. Not surprisingly, spectrum analyzers remain valuable in 5G designs, along with filters, splitters, amplifiers, calculators, monitors, frequency counters, and the like. Tools that help with integration are particularly important because of complex system designs, areas of design specialization needed, block-level development, and the need for all aspects to integrate cleanly and efficiently. Simulation tools are setting the pace for 5G design. Meanwhile, 5G devices require more complex circuitry, antennas, and other components that need to fit into small form factors. The use of massive MIMO, microwave and mmWave transceivers, FPGAs, data converters, high-power/low-noise amplifiers, and other technologies make tool selection and use even more complex. Design Tools Further Hinder the Engineering Process Chapter Five Design Tools Further Hinder the Engineering Process " Sometimes the issue is not that 5G simulation and testing are harder; it's about where to start. MATLAB's 5G Toolbox helps map your signal into the 5G frame structure, and the MATLAB antenna toolbox helps simulate, test, and visualize the antenna coverage." Stephanie Liao B5G/6G Research and PoC Engineer, MediaTek "ADI is providing higher levels of support so RF design engineers don't have to reinvent the wheel. That is a big, big time-saver." Steve Ahern Staff Applications Engineer, Analog Devices
