engines, quality assurance (QA) lines, and valves, as well as event detection in smart city applications for items such as firearms discharge, sirens, and the like. For example, the Analog Devices ADXL1002 MEMS Accelerometer may be combined with an Analog Devices ADSP-BF707 Blackfin+ Embedded Processors to enable the monitoring of a fluid moving through a pump. The ADXL1002 MEMS accelerometer acts as a sensor picking up the vibrations associated with the mechanical movement associated with the fluid moving through the system and sends this information to the embedded processor. The ADSP-BF707 Blackfin+ Embedded Processors are ideal for next-generation applications requiring RISC-like programmability, multimedia support, and leading-edge signal processing in one integrated package. The embedded processor can be programmed to properly interpret the MEMS accelerator signal through ML techniques. This allows fast and rapid setup by engineers who ensure that the process control limits are set in place and learned by the system before allowing it to operate independently. Connecting IoT may take generous advantage of connecting devices through radio frequency (RF) technology. Analog Devices Inc. SmartMesh IP Wireless Solutions are the industry's lowest power and most reliable standards-based wireless sensor networking (WSN) products. A SmartMesh Network is ultra-low power and has very high reliability for demanding industrial process automation applications (Figure 2). SmartMesh includes solutions for building automation, data center energy management, and renewable energy. SmartMesh-enabled systems are deployed worldwide, securely connecting a variety of smart devices to applications delivering on smarter, greener, more efficient solutions. A SmartMesh IP network consists of a highly scalable self- forming multi-hop mesh of wireless nodes, known as motes, which collect and relay data, and a network manager that monitors and manages network performance and security, and exchanges data with a host application (Figure 3). Products such as the DC9021B: Networking Development Tools SmartMesh IP RF Certified Starter Kit (2dBi dipole antenna) make it simple to get started (Figure 4). 9 Figure 2: SmartMesh: The only network built for industrial IoT (IIoT) (Image courtesy of Analog Devices).
