High-speed networking and miniaturization of interconnectivity solutions enable advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and increase vehicle safety. Molex is the leading supplier of small and speedy connectivity solutions supporting these developments. Maybe I am not a racecar driver many of us engineers have dreamed of becoming. But in the future, I will be driving down the road with data coming and going from my vehicle at billions of bits per second. As high-speed networking safely takes the wheel from me and takes control, I will marvel at the road quickly disappearing in front of me in a blur, thanks to those small, speedy interconnect solutions from Molex. Conclusion | 30 | Miniaturization So many new electronic components and systems are necessary to fit inside the vehicle. ADAS applications require companies such as Molex to design miniaturized connector solutions for black-box applications. Molex is a leading supplier of advanced micro connectors and supports customers in developing ADAS car cameras, radar, and LiDAR. These solutions and technologies must enable optimum safety on the road for electronic systems enabling safe, self-driving electronic mobility solutions. There is an ever-increasing demand for flexible and reliable connections that can be robotically assembled by providing board-to-board solutions made of robust materials and are easy to mate because of a vast floating range. In support of the increased demand for car camera modules with high-speed video processing, Molex provides camera I/O backshells with coaxial bullet and jack interconnections supporting high-speed media protocols with data rates up to 3Gbps. Reliable and robust connections for ADAS applications providing positive locking features and a dual-contact design for micro products, wide variety of actuator options, including zero insertion force (ZIF), slider and flip, help establish a secure connection between the Flexible Flat Cable (FFC)/Flexible Printed Circuit (FPC) connectors and terminals. Vehicle radar and LiDAR applications often employ the Molex SlimStack FSB3 and FSB5 Series Connectors, which offers much-needed compactness while managing data transmission growth. Vehicle radar applications also commonly employ Easy-On FFC/ FPC FD19 Series Connectors. Molex has a proven track record with routing FFC/FPC jumpers, using bottom, top or vertical connectors. FPCs are a lighter alternative to conventional wire- to-board connectors. Their high level of flexibility allows them to conform to the compact shapes demanded by today's vehicles. Highly integrated electronic solutions yield complex systems where electronic control units (ECUs), sensors, and wiring are interconnected. Molex recognizes that the trend will be toward miniaturized connector solutions that facilitate robotic assembly. Molex DuraClik SMT Wire-to-Board Connectors with terminal retainer options provide superior electrical contact reliability, mating retention, and space savings compared to competitive versions for high-vibration and high-temperature applications. Molex DuraClik 2.00mm pitch connector series is available in two to 15 circuits with tin- and gold-plating options. The Independent Secondary Lock (ISL) and Terminal Position Assurance (TPA) versions feature operating temperatures up to 125°C, meeting high-level automotive passenger compartment requirements. The TPA version also offers Interia Lock, requiring higher insertion force during the earlier part of mating to help confirm a secure connection. As the ever-changing market demands smaller but more reliable connections, Molex is continually developing lower-profile, higher-density interconnects to meet these needs.
