Small and Speedy Connectivity Solutions: Enabling ADAS and Increasing Vehicle Safety By Paul Golata, Mouser Electronics | 26 | Several decades ago, a young boy had a dream. His dream was to race cars. Not just any cars, but the cool, impossibly fast ones that race at the Indianapolis 500. Then one day, the dream came to a crashing halt. The boy was told he needed glasses. At the time, 20/20 eyesight was a strict requirement to drive racecars. Equipped now with his glasses and fast-forwarded more than four decades, that boy is a man who is still inspired by cars whose speeds are measured in three digits, except now they've evolved and are flying even faster. Technology has made it so that a racecar's cockpit is a synergistic merging of the highly trained driver and computer- controlled systems that help protect man and expensive machinery. Although I'm not a racecar driver, I am highly aware of the ongoing technological morphing of our most common transportation mode—the car. As manufacturers race to deliver autonomous vehicles, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) are advancing quickly onto the automotive scene. High-speed networking, coupled with the miniaturization of interconnectivity solutions, enable ADAS that improve driver and vehicle situational awareness, helping to reduce accidents and injury. ADAS is helping to make the car of today and tomorrow safer. High-speed networking and miniaturization of interconnectivity solutions are enabling the move to ADAS. High-speed networking and miniaturization of interconnectivity solutions enable advanced driver- assistance systems (ADAS) and increase vehicle safety. Molex is the leading supplier of small and speedy connectivity solutions supporting these developments.
