ishay is setting new standards in the IoT world by
implementing photovoltaic energy harvesting with
16% to 19% efficiency, in conjunction with a 4F to
90F hybrid supercapacitor in a coin cell format.
Energy harvesting is the retrieval of small amounts
of energy from ambient energy sources, such as
light, heat, vibration, or other differential quantities.
The main challenges in effective harvesting are the
efficient transformation of energy to a usable voltage
level, and lossless storage. Storage capacitors with
minimum leakage current are key components for
energy harvesting, and ENYCAP™ capacitor technology
provides the ideal properties to meet the challenges in
IoT applications. ENYCAP devices offer a small size,
high energy density, low leakage current, and more than
90% of their rated capacitance, even after 35,000 deep
discharge cycles. Such ambient energy sources make
sensors completely self-sustaining and allow them to be
used for considerably longer than the targeted 10-year
lifespan for IoT applications.
