C h a p t e r 3 | H i g h - V o l t a g e F u s e O v e r v i e w Where are fuses found in modern EV powertrains? A key attribute of EVs is their electrical nature, which drives a consideration for fuses to be used in every subsystem, including onboard chargers, offboard chargers, the inverter, power converters, and the power distribution unit. Regardless of whether an EV has an onboard charger or utilizes an offboard charger, fuse protection in both applications is paramount because of the dangers of overcurrent in battery- based technologies. In addition to damaging the battery, an overcurrent event can damage connectors, cable, switching contactors and other components in the application. The wide range of applications and use cases for fuses requires suppliers to have an extended fuse portfolio with continuous development efforts to respond to the needs of the market."
