Kim notes that methods for overcoming these challenges ultimately tie back
to the business model, but hardware vendors are working to make it easier for
engineers to design and build secure IoT devices. "Hardware vendors recognize
that security and the ability to encrypt data on devices are becoming more
important," he says. "They know that their first offerings were often too complex
or locked people into a solution that was not what the engineers really wanted.
They're now being more thoughtful about providing tools that enable engineers to
build in a safer way. I'm optimistic that the tools will continue to improve."
