UWB Going Forward
Most major device manufacturers have
incorporated UWB technology into their devices,
meaning there is a large base of knowledge and
experience, plus wide availability of parts and
development resources. As a result, the design
community can tap into a wealth of resources to
get to market quickly.
For example, Qorvo® is pioneering UWB technology,
devices, and modules. Qorvo Impulse Radio UWB
technology touts low power and secure, centimeter-
level accuracies with low latency and interoperability
with industry standards.
Evaluation boards like the DWM3000EVB shield
support 6.5GHz–8GHz UWB channels for use as
UWB transceiver modules or embedded designs. Engineers can
also directly design with IC chips that operate as low as 1.5V, like the
DW3000 series transceivers, which use a simple SPI interface and
support up to 6.8 Mbits/sec. in the 5.6 to 8GHz band.
Conclusion
UWB technology is setting a new standard in the realm of
wireless communications, delivering unparalleled precision
in location tracking and high-speed data transfer. It offers a
promising future not only for the automotive sector but also in a
broad spectrum of applications, ranging from home security to
ecological research. As it continues to integrate seamlessly with
existing technologies and standards, UWB paves the way for a
more connected and efficient world, pushing the boundaries of
what is possible with wireless communication.
