An immediate benefit of miniaturization is that signal integrity improves when sensitive components are tightly co- located within an integrated system. For example, internal signal paths can be more carefully controlled than printed circuit board traces, leading to better impedance matching and reduced susceptibility to external interference. And, as electronic systems become more modular, miniaturization brings another less obvious advantage by removing complexity from the customer's workflow. When signal chain elements are tightly integrated and factory-characterized, engineers no longer need to allocate board space, manage parasitics, or spend time debugging interactions between discrete parts. Instead, they can focus on higher-level design priorities while relying on predictable building blocks. However, increased component density introduces new thermal challenges. Power dissipation becomes more concentrated, and designers must minimize headroom across power rails to prevent unnecessary losses.
