Mouser Electronics White Paper Sustainability Initiatives ST is amplifying its technology's positive aspects by accelerating its sustainability initiatives. In 2025, ST aims to comply with the 1.5°C scenario defined in the Paris Agreement adopted at the 21 st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) 16 and recognized by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). 17 The company's move toward carbon neutrality is driven by investing in energy savings, utilizing renewable energy, reducing direct and indirect emissions, and offsetting the remaining emissions. ST develops products such as the STM32U3 in accordance with an eco-design product development process that results in sustainable products for green and well-being applications (Figure 7). ST's commitments and initiatives toward carbon neutrality have resulted in recognition as a leading company by organizations such as CDP, a global non-profit that runs an independent environmental disclosure system. 18 Figure 7: Eco-design product development process from concept to production. (Source: STMicroelectronics) System-Level Sustainability Achieving sustainability at the system level requires collaboration across the supply chain and a commitment to circular design principles. Sustainable Supply Chains and Industry Collaboration To meet end-product sustainability goals in line with energy standards and product service-life expectations, ST engages in co-designing with OEMs. ST participates in collaborative programs and partnerships for carbon neutrality throughout its ecosystems and requires top-tier suppliers to adopt science- based climate targets of 80 percent carbon neutrality by 2030. Furthermore, the company uses a variety of LCA tools. These tools include: • Environmental Improvement Made Easy (EIME), an LCA and eco-design software platform that supports the evaluation of environmental profiles of products and services. • Sphera LCA software (formerly GaBi), a sustainability tool that helps companies measure and reduce environmental impacts, improve efficiency, and ensure compliance. • OpenLCA, a free, open-source LCA software that supports worldwide collaboration. In addition, ST participates in the Product Environmental Profile (PEP) Association ecopassport® program, which provides a common and reliable framework for quantifying a product's environmental performance. These tools collectively contribute to enabling consistent impact measurement across supply chains.
