Imagine a sensor that detects an approaching object. This initial detection consumes very little power, filtering quiet periods where no action is required and improving efficiency. The next layer of the doll corresponds to a more complex sensor output that requires some computation—for example, identifying that the moving object is an approaching operator who must be identified. The final inner layer of the doll is only exposed to conduct the identification. At this point, complex models can be brought online to provide the detailed analysis required to make decisions.
