No Place Like It There's no place like home, there's no place like home, there's no place like home! Dorothy Gale (Judy Garland, 1922–1969) chanted these words while clicking together the heels of her ruby red slippers in the American musical fantasy film The Wizard of Oz (1939). Dorothy then found herself waking up in Kansas surrounded by those she loves. She no longer wants to get away and realizes that there is no place like home. Maybe you and I have not been personally picked up and transported by a tornado into a magical fantasy land, but I venture to speculate that your home is one of the most personal and special places for you. It is where we inevitably retreat at the end of the day to enjoy time with our family and friends. But our homes are undergoing a radical transformation. In the future, our living spaces will be actively connected by way of the Internet of Things (IoT). Home automation will advance beyond simple convenience and include a host of new performance options. These options will dynamically provision the areas we live in. Our homes' connected nature will allow them to maximize themselves to actively anticipate our needs and desires. This article will articulate how Connected Homes will benefit our home environment, making them capable and suitable centers for living. There's no place like it. There's no place like home. Connected Homes: Capable and Suitable Centers for Living By Paul Golata, Mouser Electronics "Our homes are where we love spending time with our friends and family. In the not so distant future, the Internet of Things (IoT) promises to connect our living spaces seamlessly and advance home automation beyond today's mere wireless convenience." 18
