Selecting the Right Mesh Technology
for your Application
By Tom Pannell, Senior Director of IoT Marketing, Silicon Labs
Mesh network topologies are ideal for many IoT systems due
to their ability to reduce system power consumption, extend
communication range, increase scalability, improve network
reliability, and optimize communication responsiveness. This
webinar compares the different mesh networking protocols
and the criteria you should consider when selecting the
right approach for your design, including the role of solution
ecosystems and wireless security.

Conclusion
Bluetooth 5 has already enjoyed market
permeation second to none in communications.
Early versions of the Bluetooth protocol
had key features and capabilities missing or
underperforming, which prevented it from being
adopted by home automation applications in
large numbers. Now that range, data speed,
message length, and battery life performance
have been greatly improved along with new
mesh networking capability, it's easy to see
how Bluetooth 5 can leverage its position
in terms of device installation to rush to
the forefront of IoT home, commercial, and
industrial building automation.
Zigbee has a strong foothold in the home
automation market, and improvements realized
in Zigbee 3.0 should keep it competitive in
terms of performance, cost, and market share.
