Universal Case System Enclosure Family Learn More 4 • Flexible PCB attachment and diverse application options • Modular configurations • Various sizes and heights available Universal Electronics Packaging Electronics housings are the optimum packaging for the PCB and therefore the functional shell for devices, such as controllers or operator panels. The Universal Case System, or UCS, is an ideal solution for embedded systems. This electronic housing consists of two identical half shells in four different sizes. Together with the removable side panels available in two heights, resulting in eight combination possibilities for housing printed- circuit boards in standard or individual form factors. The great thing here is that the system is designed such that the larger of the two side panels can be used as the small side panel in the next larger housing version. The side panel designed for the corresponding interfaces can therefore be used in two sizes of housing without the need for adaptation. Electronics housings offer different options for mounting PCBs. PCBs can be mounted directly to the corner inserts using the built-in screw bosses to utilize the maximum component space when designing custom electronics layouts. The corner inserts can also be used without the built-in screw bosses to increase flexibility when standardized PCBs are used. The PCBs are placed on special holders that are mounted to the housing shell at the appropriate position. The combination of the two mounting systems allows for custom designs. Even installing two PCBs is not a problem, since the entire surface space can be used in each half shell of the housing. The sole limitation in this case is the installation height of the printed-circuit boards. | 23 | USC universal housings are ideal for embedded systems and offer optimum protection for printed-circuit boards in standard form factors.
