15 AI Stuff Happens: Wouldn't You Like to See it Coming? By Mike Stanley, Solutions Engineer, NXP IoT Solutions M any manufacturing processes utilize equipment which, if down unexpectedly for maintenance, can cost the operator many thousands of dollars per day in lost productivity. The condition monitoring (CM) industry arose out of the need to manage that risk. It does so by providing hardware and services to continuously monitor equipment via sensors for physical quantities like vibration, sound, temperature, fluid pressure, viscosity and more. By establishing normal baselines for these parameters, it is possible to schedule maintenance in a controlled fashion before the device malfunctions. The problem with the CM solution described is that it is a costly proposition. CM functions have, therefore, been limited to ❝ ❞ Using AI and ML at the Edge to Transform Public Safety and Predictive Maintenance.
