22 Smart Mobility and the Technologies Paving the Way A s automakers strive for five-star safety ratings, the pressure is to develop safer, advanced driver-assisted vehicles. The safety-related benefits of automotive radar, new autonomous vehicle development requirements, and emerging safety requirements from organizations such as the new car assessment program (NCAP), have triggered rapid growth with steep implementation challenges for car makers and other radar focused developers. Adopting these once-premium safety features into mainstream production lines fuels a need for faster time to market. Rapidly Prototype High-Performance Automotive Radar NXP Semiconductorss has developed a radar reference design targeted for adaptive cruise control (ACC) and automatic emergency braking (AEB) applications to help automakers meet these needs. Built-in collaboration with Colorado Engineering, the NXP RDK-S32R274 radar solution features the S32R27 processor, the TEF810x CMOS transceiver, and the FS8410 power management IC. The open and flexible development platform is designed to help automakers accelerate time to market by lowering entry barriers to radar application development with hardware, software, and tools that ease radar implementations. ■ Speed Your Way Into Automotive Radar Applications Alisha Perkins, NXP Semiconductors Figure 1: Simplify the development of automotive radar applications with the NXP Automotive Radar Reference Platform (RDK-S32R274) RDK-S32R274 DEVELOPMENT KIT FS8400 & FS8500 SYSTEM BASIS CHIPS LEARN MORE u LEARN MORE u AUTOMOTIVE RADAR – NXP'S COMPLETE SYSTEM SOLUTION
