Without a doubt, flexible manufacturing is fully
dependent on the availability of data, much of which
is highly sensitive and proprietary. Hence, data
security is a significant consideration in flexible
manufacturing.
For example, in H2M and M2M collaboration, security
concerns can include data privacy and data security.
For safety and security in these instances, it is
paramount that no adversaries try to communicate
with, insert malware in, or steal information from
the machinery. However, ensuring security poses a
significant challenge in flexible manufacturing, where
users and machines need to communicate seamlessly
with each other.
