The industry is trending toward MEMS
devices with greater accuracy, robustness,
and overall performance. Couple that with
improvements in computing and machine
learning, and it's clear that MEMS are
going to play an integral role in the next
generation of electronic solutions."

Looking at the sensors themselves, the technology
is only expected to benefit from continued advances
in semiconductor fabrication, including advanced
nodes and improved yield. As a result, future MEMS
devices will likely exhibit greater resolutions, smaller
sizes, lower noise floors, and greater measurement
ranges. Further, as the technology continues to gain
widespread adoption, MEMS costs are expected to
continue dropping without sacrificing performance or
reliability—blurring the lines between consumer and
industrial devices.
Because of these promising trends in the field, a slew
of emerging technologies are poised to benefit from
the accuracy and reliability of MEMS.
One such application is augmented reality/virtual
reality (AR/VR) headsets, for which accurate motion
tracking is essential to prevent disorientation
and to ensure that the virtual environment aligns
precisely with the user's physical movements. In
AR/VR headsets, MEMS sensors play a pivotal role
in tracking and replicating user movements. These
sensors detect the slightest changes in orientation
