C h a p t e r 2 When it comes to tracking SOC and SOH for a BMS, measurements ultimately boil down to three variables: voltage, current, and temperature. Each variable individually provides useful insights into the state and health of the battery, and the combination of all three variables can paint a complete picture. However, different specialized components are needed to measure each variable. For current sensing, the shunt resistor is the most fundamental component. Shunt resistors are very accurate, low-resistance components that utilize VOLTAGE, CURRENT, AND TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENTS Energy Storage Systems on industrial and commercial applications have demanding lifetime requirements ranging between 15 and 20 years. BMS plays a crucial role in achieving this by monitoring cell voltage, temperature, and current to prevent issues such as overcharging and overheating, thereby extending the life of the batteries."
