All else equal, a design will achieve the required receive strength in the given range with the minimum power from the transmit side, by employing effective antenna solutions. Thus, selecting a power- efficient antenna is critical to achieving the uninterrupted service expected from a wireless device. Power efficiency is also extremely important in fleet telematic applications that involve battery-powered devices, such as those for asset tracking and logistics. Often, small, battery-powered IoT devices may be deployed in remote locations, where accessing and servicing them may be extremely difficult or impossible. In this scenario, battery life should be maximized, as battery replacements and/or charges are not necessarily realistic options. To maximize battery life, electronic systems need to be designed to consume as little power as possible. However, such design is a challenge, as fleet telematics may rely on continual communication, meaning the power-hungry radio- frequency (RF) hardware must be continually operating. For this reason, fleet telematics systems need to be designed with the most efficient RF hardware and antennas in order to maximize battery life. TE Connectivity addresses the need for power-efficient fleet telematics by: • Leveraging decades of product development and manufacturing experience in effective antenna solutions. • Working with customers to help them find the right antenna to maximize performance and minimize power consumption while achieving the best wireless communication link.
