are experiencing lead times exceeding 52 weeks, resulting in all kinds of issues, including product price increases, scalpers hoarding and reselling parts at extortionate prices, and even counterfeit parts entering the market. For its SiC devices, Microchip has established multiple fabrication facilities while securing multiple sources for raw materials. For example, Microchip has several suppliers for SiC epitaxial wafers and is not reliant on competitors for these materials. Therefore, Microchip's fabrication facilities have significant resistance against global markets, helping to secure stable supplies of SiC devices for designers. Additionally, Microchip offers market-leading lead times, which not only help to ensure a steady supply of SiC devices but also equip engineers to quickly scale up production rates. C h a p t e r 4 | L o w e r R i s k Compared to Si, SiC devices have better reverse recovery charge, greater operating temperature range, and larger operating voltages which all contribute to a more robust component. A product designed using SiC will have reduced losses, mass, and volume. In an EV system, this high efficiency of the SiC-based inverter allows the size of an EV system battery to be reduced without affecting the driving range."
