Microchip has not only devoted itself
to producing SiC devices unrivalled in
the industry but also created an entire
ecosystem that supports engineers
throughout the entirety of a project,
from initial design to mass production.
One area Microchip has focused on is
reducing the time to market through
the development of numerous tools,
support packages, reference designs,
and development kits. Microchip's
offerings help accelerate projects, in
turn reducing engineering development
costs and facilitating the securing of a
strong market position far ahead of any
competition.
To help engineers understand how to
implement SiC devices into their designs,
Microchip has developed many reference
boards and circuits, which can be freely
copied into designs. These designs span
basic switching circuits to entire power
products; two examples are a 30 kW
Vienna power factor corrector and a solid-
state circuit breaker (electronic fuse). By
following reference designs, engineers
can mitigate design errors that may creep
in when switching from Si to SiC, reduce
the number of design iterations, and bring
products to market faster.
High-power circuits can be complex to
design because of component variation
SiC SPEED TO MARKET
The thermal improvements of SiC
semiconductors allow the designer
to develop power converters with
higher power density using only a
forced air cooling system or none
at all. This saves both time and
money."
