"The Chip"

(You can listen to the story here, courtesy Third Rock Radio)

Since the beginning of time, man has looked up to the stars and wondered…how can we get there? We did get there, in the summer of 1969 when astronaut Neil Armstrong made one giant leap for mankind.  NONE of this would have been possible without the development of both fast and small electronic components that now form the backbone of information and processing technology.

Just prior to Kennedy’s presidency, Jack Kilby invented and developed the integrated circuit.  The chip has literally changed our world.  Over the past fifty years, processing speeds and available memory of ICs has gone completely out of this world, enabling engineers to journey into the far reaches of space. Besides, Mr. Spock, space-age robots and aliens aren’t the only advanced brains out there.

Where to next?  That’s up to you – yes you!
